Bracebridge
Soccer Fine Tunes House League as Spring Kicks In
As the snow finally melts away on the
streets and fields of Muskoka, the Bracebridge Soccer Club is putting
the final touches on its House League program for the 2008 season.
For all the young players and their parents
in the House League program, things really get underway on Thursday, May
1st, with the traditional Uniform Pick-up Night, when the
doors at the BMLSS Cafeteria will open at 7:00pm for all age groups.
But before then, there are a number of
important activities for the adult and student volunteers that provide
the coaching in the House League program, and there have been a couple
of changes in the structure of the program.
The program changes do not involve any
revisions in the nights of play or the field locations for any
divisions, but the age divisions at the oldest level have been
re-arranged to better cope with registration levels.
The Under 11 divisions for both boys and
girls will now be expanded to be Under 12 divisions, still playing
Mondays (boys) and Thursday (girls).
For all young soccer players wanting to play
at the recreational level that are born in 1995 or earlier, a new Teen
Rec League is being started, and it will have games on Tuesdays starting
at 7:45pm, once the younger House League program has finished.
This will provide a playing opportunity for
players that registered in the Youth House League at U14, as well as
students volunteering as coaches, the chance to play with an older
group.
The House League program is still looking
for a few parent volunteers to get involved as coaches in various age
divisions, and student volunteers can now register to become coaches at
their secondary schools.
Bracebridge Soccer will credit student
coaches with 20 hours of Community Service hours if they participate in
all of the training and coaching sessions, but they must take the
three-hour House League Coach training program to be eligible.
The House League Coach training program will
run on three different occasions in the week before the program starts,
on April 21st, 24th and 27th. Both
student and adult coaches need to attend one of the three sessions.
All of the House League coaches also need to
attend the Pre-Season Coach’s meeting on Tuesday, April 29th,
at 7:00pm, in the BMLSS Cafeteria.
For young players, actual play in the House
League starts with an Opening Day on Saturday, May 3rd, with
each age division playing at a different time at the BPS/BML Lower
Fields and the Monck field.
After that, all House League activities will
run on weeknights, starting the week of May 5th and running
until the end of the week of July 3rd.
Further details on the House League program,
the coach training program, and the Teen Rec League, are available on
the soccer club website,
www.bracebridgesoccer.net.
All of the Club’s rep teams, from Under9 to
Under18, are now training on a weekly basis in different school gyms, as
they also anxiously await warmer temperatures that will dry out the
soccer fields. |
