Referee
Development Plan 2008
Goal – To focus on the
retention of our existing referees, through new methods
and better management from the Club.
Actions
1) Encourage
Referees to register early (end of March) by sending
emails and making calls – distribute and explain our
Plan
2) Undertake
a multi-faceted training program, starting in the
pre-season and continuing into the season
3) Club
Head Referee, with help from Club’s senior referees,
will mentor young and new referees, in game situations
4) Ensure
all young referees will get an equal opportunity to do
an equal amount of games (subject to availability – more
contact by email, telephone, website, schedule board at
Clubhouse
5) Club
Head Referee will be available at the fields on a
regular basis to answer questions and solve problems
6) Club
will purchase ref uniforms for new refs, to be re-paid
by reffing fees at regular game rates
7) Ensure
no referee is placed in an uncomfortable on-field
situation, beyond their capabilities.
8) Make
refereeing fun and enjoyable for all.
Referee Development
Program
1) Host
a Referee Refresher Course offered by District for all
referees, usually on specific topics. April 20th.
2) Run
an in-house for all referees at Gostick Park (when
fields first open) – review new rules, mini soccer
rules, infractions and offside rules, lining procedures
3) Progressive
Mentoring for Young/New Referees – Early Season
a. In
small groups, referees will attend games with the CHR to
observe and be advised on best practices – various dates
will be offered
b. Referees
to be provided for U12 House League – with CHR in
attendance, using a Mentoring Form
c. Referees
get assigned to ref Mini games
d. Referees
get assigned to do lines at Rep Team games
